Places

Where we go in Hà Giang

The famous loop covers the karst plateau in the north-east. The west of the province is quieter: terraced rice valleys and villages most visitors never reach.

Why Hà Giang

A side of Vietnam most travellers never see

Hà Giang is Vietnam at its wildest and most welcoming: huge mountain views, living traditions and roads made for adventure. It is the trip people still talk about years later.

Layered limestone mountains around Mã Pí Lèng

Landscapes like nowhere else

The Đồng Văn Karst Plateau is a sea of limestone peaks, deep canyons and terraced valleys, and a UNESCO Global Geopark.

Cultures you can be part of

Hmong, Dao, Tày, Lô Lô and other communities welcome you into their villages, markets and homes.

Crisp mountain air

Up above 1,000 metres the air is fresh and cool. Winter evenings are perfect for hotpot and corn wine by the fire.

A road that is the adventure

Every pass, switchback and canyon edge is a highlight. Here the journey really is the best part.

Room to breathe

Cosy homestays, open roads and villages where a hello turns into an invitation for tea.

The top of the country

Stand at Lũng Cú, Vietnam’s northernmost point, with views across the mountains to China.

Food

Ten places to eat in Hà Giang

Most are in Đồng Văn and Mèo Vạc, where the loop stops for the night. Order the local dishes: sour phở, thắng cố, five-colour sticky rice and corn wine.

Meet Ri Ri

She was a tourist here once, too.

Ri Ri has lived in Vietnam for over two years, most of it in Hà Giang. She knows the spots worth stopping for because she once needed someone to show her. She has friends up and down the province and speaks semi-fluent Vietnamese.
